Bow Lake Recycling & Transfer Station

A new 100,596 SF high‑capacity transfer station designed to support efficient recycling and waste processing with reduced environmental impact.

The Bow Lake Solid Waste Facility is a 100,596 SF replacement transfer station serving King County’s highest‑volume site, processing more than one‑third of the county’s solid waste. The facility includes conveyance and processing systems such as balers, conveyors, compactors, a dust collection system, a refueling station, and a SCADA system for operational control. Environmental systems include misting, rainwater harvesting, gas and spark detection, and a methane mitigation system.

Construction was phased to allow the existing transfer station to remain operational throughout the project. Using a GC/CM approach, the new facility earned LEED Platinum certification and was built to support recycling and waste transfer for a long time with strong systems and a smart design.
