Mount Vernon Library Commons

A forward-thinking public facility combining Passive House design with one of the nation’s largest municipal EV charging networks.
The Mount Vernon Library Commons is the largest project in the City of Mount Vernon’s history, delivering a multi-use civic facility that includes a public library, community conference center, commercial kitchen, and three levels of structured parking with approximately 275 stalls. The building also features the largest municipally owned electric vehicle charging station in the U.S., with 76 chargers, along with amenities such as bicycle charging lockers, dedicated youth and teen spaces, and flexible community meeting areas. Designed as an all-electric facility pursuing Passive House certification, the building achieves significant energy efficiency, reducing energy use by approximately 80 percent compared to the city’s previous library.
