SIERR Building at McKinstry Station

A historic renovation transforming a 1907 electric streetcar facility into a high‑performance headquarters and clean‑technology hub.
The Spokane & Inland Empire Railroad (SIERR) Building at McKinstry Station, originally constructed in 1907 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 2010, was renovated into McKinstry’s Regional Inland Northwest headquarters with integrated office and retail space. The 68,000 SF facility incorporates modern energy‑efficient systems, including ground source heat pumps, radiant panels, rainwater harvesting, and building envelope upgrades while preserving the historic structure. The project emphasized sustainability through extensive material recycling and reuse, environmental remediation, and LEED® Gold certification, extending the life of a significant historic building and returning it to active community use.
