Washington State University Troy Hall

Renovation of the 50,202 SF historic brick building transformed Troy Hall into a modern, integrated science facility that unites the Department of Chemistry and the School of the Environment while preserving the building’s historic roots.
The Troy Hall Renovation is a historic adaptive reuse project that transformed a 1926 campus landmark — formerly home to the WSU Creamery and Ferdinand’s — into a modern research and laboratory facility. The design preserved the building’s original exterior brick walls while fully gutting and rebuilding the interior with a new structural system that reduced the need for bulky support columns, opening up significantly more usable floor space across all four levels. New laboratory spaces were designed to primarily support student and research chemists, with built‑in flexibility to accommodate future use by engineering, agriculture, biotechnology, health sciences, and veterinary programs. The project also included a north‑side addition providing office, study, and support spaces, along with extensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to meet contemporary research requirements.
