Hazel Wolf K-8 E-STEM School

Hazel Wolf K‑8 School brings E‑STEM education to life through a hands‑on, environment‑first campus designed as a fully integrated indoor‑outdoor learning environment.
Hazel Wolf K‑8 School was constructed as part of Seattle Public Schools’ Building Excellence IV Levy, replacing the former Pinehurst School on a compact 3.2‑acre site. Designed as a choice school with a focus on environmental learning and E‑STEM, the 78,000 SF facility integrates building and landscape to function as an indoor/outdoor learning lab. Green roofs, terraces, and a central courtyard support hands‑on learning through plantings, stormwater management, and a constructed wetland, while a botanical garden and living wall reinforce the school’s environmental mission. Built on a fast‑paced schedule during the wettest winter on record in the Seattle area, the project required close collaboration and creative problem‑solving with the District to maintain progress. Despite record rainfall, the team delivered the school on schedule and at a high level of quality, without compromising the design intent or learning experience.
