John Rogers Elementary School

The John Rogers Elementary School replacement project delivers a new 82,000 SF multi‑story facility designed to serve 500 PreK–5 students. Construction requires temporarily relocating students off‑site and includes hazardous material abatement, demolition of the existing 1955 building, and extensive site and utility improvements. The project also introduces a safer on‑site bus loop to improve student access and supervision.

Site evaluations identified several complex conditions shaping the design and construction approach, including water mitigation challenges near Thornton Creek and an adjacent retention pond, a liquefaction zone beneath the playfield, and a 72‑inch Seattle Public Utilities storm drain crossing the site. Steep slopes along the north and northeast edges further limit buildable areas on the 9.01‑acre property.
