The Madison Elementary School project replaced a 1950s-era facility with a new two-story, 79,500 SF elementary school serving 600 K–5 students on its original 16.54-acre urban site. The new school includes 30 classrooms, a library, a theater, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a kitchen, and administrative offices, along with a 120-stall surface parking lot and dedicated bus loading areas, all designed to WSSP standards. Construction was completed in multiple phases, beginning with demolition of the existing school, and required careful coordination due to site constraints, surrounding neighborhoods, rail proximity, and sloping topography. To address regional cost escalation and schedule pressures, early bid packages were released to lock in pricing and maximize dry-weather construction, while students and staff were temporarily relocated to a nearby swing school as part of a district-wide capital bond program.
