James Baldwin Elementary School replaces the former Northgate Elementary on the same 5.81‑acre site, expanding capacity to 650 K–5 students in a new 95,000 SF, multi‑story facility. The school is organized into learning clusters with shared commons, secure entries, and a layout designed to fit comfortably within the surrounding residential neighborhood. Extensive preconstruction collaboration with Seattle Public Schools, educators, and the community helped shape the design, while careful cost and logistics planning allowed the project to move forward during the pandemic. Construction took place on a tight, occupied site and required creative coordination, including off‑site parking partnerships, to minimize neighborhood impacts and deliver a modern, community‑focused learning environment.
